In this 90-minute special of The Hard Drive, I’m joined by Derby-based emo band Porcelain Girl, who chat with me about their influences, their insane 2026 (so far) with the release of their debut EP, and reflect on some of the shows they’ve played over the year.
So who is Porcelain Girl? According to vocalist and guitarist Tino Martin, they’re an “emo, post-hardcore band from the East Midlands (Derby), and we just make whiny, pathetic emo music for people, and try and make it as melodramatic and as ridiculous as possible”. Alongside Tino, the band is made up of guitarist Will Hayes, bassist Jack Ward, and drummer Sam Saxby, and together they’re making waves in the Derby emo scene.
In terms of music, their debut EP, i hate you, dropped in April, followed by a single release, Me and my Gun, in August. Throughout the year, they’ve been promoting their new music at a slew of shows, including an incredible sold-out show at Derby’s Vic Inn, a show the band say was insanely sweaty but incredible to sell out a venue and to have people at the door wanting to get in.
Throughout the show, the band shared some of their influences from bands such as Hail the Sun, Basement, Arm’s Length, and Mineral, as well as talking through some of the inspiration behind their own work. We may have also dived into a little game of this-or-that with a series of maps from Black Ops II on the Xbox 360…
